This past Saturday, Jo Ann and I (Carlie) attended the Backyard Gardening Symposium put on by the South Central WI Master Gardeners Association, where we also gave a flower arranging demonstration. What a fun and great learning experience it was!
We heard from Trudy Temple, founder of Market Day and author. She was an absolute joy to listen to, with her inspiring and funny stories and useful, everyday gardening tips.
We also learned about the importance and new interest in beekeeping. What a fascinating creature they are, and what a rewarding and enjoyable hobby!
Jo Ann did a fantastic demonstration of fresh flower arranging, with great tips and ideas for everyone to take home and get inspired to use what they have in their back yards. With Jo’s fun personality, the demonstration was enjoyed by all!
Finally, we learned about rain gardens from Jacob Blue of Applied Ecological Systems in Brodhead. This one really got us thinking about our own yards and easily turning them into a beautiful display of native plants. Rain gardens collect, filter, and infiltrate stormwater run-off into the ground, provide habitat for wetland fauna, and provide enjoyment for the owner.
We were happy to participate in the seminars and proud to represent Brenda’s Blumenladen. It’s always rewarding to get out and meet new people and learn new things from the wonderful world of gardening!
